Free Amigurumi Elephant Pattern

This is an Amigurumi Elephant I made for fun. I was trying to stay away from making animals that I had seen a lot of patterns for but finally decided to make whatever the hell I feel like ^_^ Today I was feeling large and in charge, hence the elephant. This big guy was a lot of fun to make. Aaron named him Dozey, which seems to fit his dreamy little eyes. He stands about 7 inches tall and is about 1 foot in length (trunk to butt [that sounds redundant when you think of it in slang terms {forget that heh}]) There are more pictures at the bottom of my pattern.

At this point, you will flatten the ear. They will not flatten completely, but instead will form a “cup” shape. Make sure you have flattened the ear so that your hook remains at one end of them like so:

then you are going to single crochet across, attaching both sides of the ear so that you will close it up.It will be a total of 11 single crochet across. This is me beginning:

Eye Whites:

(In white, make two)

To make the little hairs hanging off the edge of Dozey’s tail, I pulled about ten strands of yarn through the initial Magic Ring, all the way through the tail and tied a knot at the top like so:

I then pulled the strands down from the magic ring to hide the knot inside the tail:

After this I just cut the strands of yarn so that they were a “normal” length for the little hairs on the bottom of an elephant’s tail.

Little Tusks:

(I made little tusks in Ivory for Dozey. In Ivory or White, make two.)

Assembly:

Everything in the assembly can pretty much be seen in the pictures. Of course, you can place the eyes wherever you choose. Same goes for the tusks, tail, rug, legs etc. Three things I have a comment for are…

Ears: Place them where the dip on top of the body was made by all our decreasing and increasing-madness.

Eyes: To attach the lids to the eye whites, just place the eye white inside of the eye lids and stitch them on. It might be a bit of a tight squeeze, but you can do it ^_^. I used the black felt to make pupils.

Rug: I decided to kind of embroider the rug for my elephant and add some tassels. Nothing fancy, just a little detail because I felt like it. You don’t absolutely have to.
